FDM prints from a plastic filament. It suits larger prototypes and fixtures. The layers show, and the build is fast and inexpensive.
SLA prints from resin. The part is fine and smooth, so the method suits small visual pieces.
SLS sinters powder with a laser. The parts are strong and need no supports, most often in polyamide.
MJF, HP Multi Jet Fusion, is the powder method we choose most often for functional parts. It prints in PA12, to about 0.2 mm. The part holds its shape and has a smooth surface. The photos below are from this method.
